Study on 3rd airport omits Chicago

Chicago was not included Thursday among the sites to be surveyedin a $5.7 million federally financed study of where to locate a thirdmajor airport in the metropolitan area.

However, city Aviation Commissioner Jay Franke said the RegionalAirport Planning Committee, which authorized the study, "may not bethe best forum" to decide where to build a new airport.

Franke, a member of the committee, said the city mightcommission its own study.

Thursday's committee meeting was the first since Mayor Daleysuggested the Southeast Side as a possible airport site.
